Health and Well-Being

Call to action: We at Helmar Care challenge you and your families to move more by using some great resources from NHS Better Health, local walks ideas and Better Bones classes

  • No matter how much you do, physical activity is good for your body and mind
  • Adults should aim to be active for 20 to 30 minutes every day
  • Exercise can  improve your sleep, help clear your mind of worries, boost your energy levels and help with back and joint pain
  • Keeping active lowers your longer term risks of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and several cancers

Simple tips to help you to move more

  1. Make moving a habit - this could be as simple as doing stretches every time there’s a TV advert break, or pacing the kitchen each time you boil the kettle
  2. Strength exercises like carrying heavy shopping help keep muscles, joints and bones strong  - this needs to be part of your weekly exercise
  3. It’s easier to exercise together - friends and family might like a bit of competition with you to see who can do the most daily steps for example
  4. Always find something you enjoy - having fun will make it easier to keep going.

Try an NHS Better Health 10 minute home workout - a great way to build up strength and balance as part of daily our weekly 150 minutes of activity. Suitable for all abilities!
